Alan acts for a broad spectrum of lenders, insolvency practitioners, directors and other stakeholders in insolvency and restructuring matters. He has acted for most of the leading insolvency practitioners in Scotland over many years and provides advice to stakeholders in all areas of insolvency practice including sales, purchases, directors' duties, challengeable transactions, wrongful trading and refinancing.

Alan also has considerable experience in acting on ABLs, particularly in insolvency and near-insolvency situations, including, in particular, the use of ABL funding in acquisitions out of insolvency.

Career

Alan has specialised in corporate restructuring and insolvency assignments for over twenty years. Initially following qualification he specialised in corporate law and gained extensive experience in the Scottish SME and midmarket sectors. Since 2000 he has specialised in distressed corporate projects and has in-depth and broad experience across a number of sectors including sport, shipping/marine, retail, leisure and hospitality, charity and property development. In addition to acting for lenders, creditors and other stakeholders, he has provided advice on a frequent basis both in times of crisis and in long-term adviser roles to directors and corporate entities in respect of issues arising during times of financial stress, challenging trading periods and long-term restructurings, to deliver commercial and positive results. Likewise, his extensive experience in working with insolvency practitioners appointed to distressed entities has afforded him in-depth knowledge of all aspects of insolvency under Scots Law including regulatory and technical aspects as well as commercial and trading considerations.
