Business Finance & Restructuring:

Weil has served as chief debtors’ counsel in five of the six largest US bankruptcy filings in history and has represented clients in numerous complicated crossborder insolvency and restructuring matters, including Lehman Bros (the largest ever US bankruptcy) and the joint special administrators to MF Global UK.

With more than 600 corporate lawyers across the US, Europe and Asia, Weil is regularly involved in the largest and most complex transactions in the world. The firm regularly ranks among the top ten firms globally for volume of M&A transactions. In the last year alone, Weil has advised on more than 100 transactions larger than $1 billion for clients in a range of sectors and geographies.

Private Equity:

Weil’s prominent private equity practice features more than 200 lawyers worldwide with expertise in fund formation and buyout transactions, including 60 full time private funds lawyers practicing in Asia, Europe, and the US. Weil regularly represents more than 200 private equity clients throughout the world, including 70% of the top 25, as ranked by PEI 300 in 2018. The firm regularly advises on multi-billion-dollar transactions for many of the largest private equity funds by assets under management, including Advent, Providence, and THL Partners. Weil advises its private equity clients in investments and sales in every part of the world.

Executive Compensation & Employee Benefits:
The executive compensation and employee benefits practice at Weil advises clients globally in all aspects of compensation and benefits that arise in M&A transactions, and regularly provides advice on senior executive employment arrangements, stock options, restricted stock and other equity compensation, deferred compensation arrangements, golden parachutes and pension plans. The group also advises Weil’s clients on the often complex and interrelated ERISA, tax, securities law, and financial accounting issues that arise in their compensation and benefit programs.

Pro Bono:
The cornerstone of Weil’s award-winning pro bono practice is the firm’s goal that every lawyer perform 50 hours of pro bono work each year; the expectation that every partner work on a pro bono matter every year; and the requirement that every new attorney take on a pro bono matter.
