Level Twenty Seven Chambers is a leading Australian barristers’ chambers and the largest in Queensland. With particular experience in large-scale, high-value and cross-border contract, energy, infrastructure, mining, and building and construction disputes, members regularly appear throughout Australia’s State and Federal Courts, specialist tribunals, significant public inquiries and Royal Commissions, and large-scale national and international commercial arbitrations. Acting for individuals, companies, and government agencies, clients come from diverse industries and include Australian and international entities.

Several members have overseas jurisdictional experience, including in Abu Dhabi, the Cayman Islands, Hong Kong, London and Tokyo. Five members are dual-qualified to practise in England & Wales. Members have appeared in the Cayman Islands, Bahamas, Solomon Islands, before specialist arbitrations at the ICC (London and Paris), and participated in proceedings in the Court of Arbitration for Sport. International arbitration appearances include ACICA, CIETAC, HKIAC, ICC, LCIA, SIAC and UNCITRAL. Cases undertaken relate to public and private international issues, commodities, price reviews, infrastructure access, energy and resources projects, as well as general contractual disputes.

Banking & Finance:
Briefed in high-profile, complex and multijurisdictional disputes, class actions, regulatory investigations and government inquiries, including The Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry.

Competition & Consumer:
Cases include allegations of price-fixing, abuse of market power, cartel conduct and misleading and deceptive conduct in trade and commerce.

Construction & Infrastructure:
Complex and high-value matters, nationally and internationally, in courts and arbitrations involving onshore and offshore projects across all industries.

Members are briefed by regulators, public/private companies and individuals in disputes about commercial agreements, shareholder disputes, directors’ duties and corporate governance, ethics and trading policies, external administration, legal and regulatory compliance, managed investment schemes, and M&A.

Equity & Trusts:
Matters typically arise from SMEs and major corporations for alleged breaches of fiduciary and statutory duties, and those seeking equitable relief.

Inquiries & Coronial Inquests:
Briefed in high profile proceedings as counsel assisting or counsel representing parties, witnesses and persons of interest. Cases include coronial inquests into deaths occurring during police operations, those associated with product liability and professional negligence.

Insolvency & Restructuring:
Experience in winding up proceedings, sequestration orders, claims brought by external administrators and bankruptcy trustees concerning insolvent or voidable transactions, applications for directions and judicial advice, challenges to adjudications on proofs of debt, proceedings brought by/against receivers and secured creditors, restructuring matters.

Insurance/reinsurance experience includes court and arbitral proceedings concerning directors’ liability, indemnity claims in construction risk, flood, fire and accident, and professional indemnity claims.

Judicial Review & Administrative Law:
Act for Commonwealth and State agencies involved in high-profile and high-value proceedings before the Federal and Supreme Courts, Administrative Appeals Tribunal and Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

Land Law & Property:
Advisors, advocates, arbitrators, expert determiners and mediators relating to real property. Expertise includes advising construction and enforceability of contracts for sale and commercial leases, land acquisition compensation, land valuation to be applied for rates and land tax purposes, objecting mining leases and compensation payable in respect to them.

Media, Defamation & Sport:
Services include pre-publication advice to litigation, including applications for urgent injunctive relief, suppression orders, Shield Laws, implied Constitutional freedom of speech, trials and appeals. Other experience includes privacy law, contempt, privilege and intellectual property protection. Act for sports governing bodies, athletes and clubs in selection, doping, funding, governance, media, disciplinary, sponsorship, broadcasting deals and other commercial matters.

Planning & Environment:
Extensive experience acting for developers, government, infrastructure providers and parties affected by development and resumptions in all areas of planning, environment and local government law.

Professional Negligence:
Particular expertise relating to claims against professionals (including accountants, financial planners, lawyers, doctors, architects and engineers) for negligence, breach of contract or fiduciary duty or breach of trust. Work undertaken ranges from multi-million dollar claims to private individuals who feel poorly served by their professional advisers.

Resources & Energy:
Work with clients across all sectors of the energy industry including electricity, renewables, mining, oil & gas to nuclear fuels. Clients include oil exploration and refining companies, contractors, governments and regulators, and oil and gas commodity traders as well as their financiers and insurers/reinsurers.

Act for Commonwealth and State revenue authorities, corporate groups, HNWIs, and foreign investors in litigation and in providing complex advice on both proposed and completed domestic and cross-border transactions.
