Main Areas of Practice:
Capital Markets:

Represent issuers and banks in initial public offerings, Mexican Certificados de Capital de Desarrollo and securitisations. The team represents both local and international companies in securities. It works on behalf of a wide range of clients, including the first and biggest Fibra in Mexico.

Banking & Finance:
The Mexico team has highly experienced attorneys in all types of financings with extensive knowledge of complex structured finance. It is focused on local and cross-border financing, including corporate financing, real estate financing and all other types of asset financing. The firm has significant experience including equity release financing, subordinated debt, highly visible financings and debt restructurings of public companies and local governments in Mexico as well as numerous representations of local and foreign banks in all types of financings.

The multidisciplinary team focuses on planning and prevention, and in individual and collective litigation. It is prepared to guide clients in a range of areas, including employee benefit plan designs, implementation and compliance, collective negotiations with unions, labour litigation (both ordinary and complex constitutional cases), executive compensation and employee benefits, labour management relations, noncompete agreements and workforce reductions in virtually all major industry sectors in the US and abroad.

The team has arbitrated multiple international disputes in seats with numerous applicable laws. It has experience arbitrating commercial and investment disputes under different administrative bodies.

Attorneys handle complex commercial, civil, administrative and constitutional amparo litigation both local and international cross-border matters dealing with construction, oil and gas, energy, infrastructure, government contracts, telecommunications, software, distribution, franchises, M&A, bankruptcy and creditors’ rights, banking, tax, white collar, and anti-corruption.

The practice advises international companies operating in Mexico, either directly or through subsidiaries or special purpose vehicles incorporated in Mexico, in designing and implementing joint ventures, trusts, M&A, corporate reorganisations, divestitures, spinoffs and dissolutions, and advising clients on day-to-day general corporate matters and foreign investment obligations.

The practice has market experience representing companies in the oil and gas, mining, electric, renewable and alternative energy, power generation, antitrust proceedings, ducts, biofuels, and government procurement sectors. Clients include local industry participants and state-owned entities. It has worked on more than 500 energy industry matters, providing firsthand knowledge of the Mexican energy sector.

Intellectual Property:
The Mexico team has extensive experience in a complete range of legal services in the field of Intellectual Property. The firm's Intellectual Property attorneys have represented and advised numerous clients from a wide range of sectors in several transactions addressing all forms of intellectual property law, due diligence processes, and disputes with regard to the enforcement and protection of their intellectual property rights. This expertise and knowledge enables the firm to guide its clients from the conception of their ideas and innovations to their protection in trials.

International Trade:
Attorneys have substantial experience in the procedures for the determination of antidumping and countervailing duties. The seasoned team is experienced in investigations performed by the Mexican investigating authority and challenging the outcome before international bodies.

Real Estate:
The team has in-depth experience handling the acquisition and development of major hotel projects in many of Mexico's most renowned beach resorts, preparation and negotiation of hotel operation agreements, and structuring and planning of fractional programs for various hotel developers and operators. The firm is well-versed in financing industrial real estate portfolios and mortgage securitisation programs; in the handling, development, construction and financing of golf courses and high-end residential projects in major Mexican beach resorts; and restructuring and workouts of major hotel developments.

The practice advises clients in corporate reorganisations, investment vehicles, startups, financing structures, at a domestic and international level, and in designing tax-efficient strategies on different types of client transactions and dispositions. The practice significantly comprises estate and succession planning for high-net-worth individuals.

Attorneys have substantial experience in the telecommunications industry assisting clients with regulatory, transactional and litigation matters. It represents fixed and mobile carriers, satellite operators, ecommerce retailers, cloud services providers, equipment and service providers, financial advisors, and enterprise users on communications services.

As active members of welfare and charitable giving initiatives in the Latin American community, Holland and Knight supports different non-profit associations and NGOs located in Mexico, Colombia and the USA that execute various projects in a diverse range of sectors. The firm provided legal assistance to the victims of the Mexican earthquake of September 2017. The Pro Bono group advised victims with regard to lease contracts, insurance (property, health vehicular, etc.), inheritances and government economic support.

Diversity & Inclusion:
The firm's Mexico City office actively supports gender equality and inclusion projects. As part of a global and firmwide initiative, during the Mexico City 2019 Pride Parade, the firm's office worked together with the Mexico City Government and the Mexican Ministry of Tourism to hold the first edition of a "Pride Night" event at the Interactive Museum of Economics (MIDE) in Mexico City, an effort that reaffirms the firm's commitment to support initiatives that promote LGBTQ community inclusion and equality in the country.
