Brussels Office:
Crowell & Moring’s Brussels office is a strong domestic and European practice that serves clients across numerous jurisdictions. It is an interdepartmental office, each partner having their own individual areas of focus, and it provides a full range of legal services across a spectrum of technological and commercial fields. The office’s dispute resolution capabilities are well known.

The Brussels office is supported internationally by Crowell & Moring colleagues in the US and London, and can rely on a well-established network of other local lawyers across Europe. C&M International, Crowell & Moring’s affiliated consultancy firm, assists with international policy and regulatory affairs.

Brussels Office Industry Focus:
The main industry focus is on pharmaceuticals and life sciences, and technology, media and telecommunications (TMT). Competition/Antitrust:
The EU competition practice has extensive experience in merger control, damages litigation, abuse of dominance proceedings, IP/antitrust issues, state aid, and compliance training. The domestic Belgian practice is well established and has a particular focus on antitrust litigation, including recovery work. More than 70 US antitrust lawyers provide international support.

Corporate & Commercial:
The Belgian corporate & commercial practice helps companies set up, manage, structure and develop their business in Europe. It advises on business formation, transactional matters and restructuring, as well as mergers and acquisitions. All types of complex contracts and commercial disputes are handled.

Employment:
The Belgian labor and employment practice advises clients on individual and collective employment law, outsourcing, social security and HR privacy issues. There is a focus on litigation and significant experience in handling the employment aspects of company restructuring and issues related to global mobility and cross-border personnel engagement.

EU Regulatory:
The EU regulatory practice has a particular focus on IP, IT, life sciences, telecommunications and the media. It helps clients identify and manage the numerous legal requirements that affect their business, both on a national and international level. The practice advises on product-related issues, and broader issues such as data protection regulation.

Intellectual Property:
With skill and experience across the full range of IP disciplines, the IP practice focuses on patent litigation, trademarks, designs, TMT, trade secrets and copyright. The practice advises on IP portfolio management and is well known for its litigation and arbitration capabilities. International support is provided by more than 60 US IP colleagues. The Belgian IP practice is one of the largest and best respected in Belgium.

International Dispute Resolution:
Crowell & Moring lawyers counsel clients in complex arbitrations, with a particular focus on matters involving intellectual property, information technology and the internet. The firm has represented clients in procedures before such bodies as the International Chamber of Commerce and the Belgian Arbitration and Mediation Center. Several Crowell & Moring lawyers have themselves been appointed as arbitrators or mediators in international and local ADR proceedings.

International Trade/WTO:
The international trade practice is part of the firm-wide practice, which is well known for advising global businesses on managing risk and seizing opportunities. The firm is a leader in the export control and sanctions law area, representing a wide range of US and non-US interests affected by extraterritorial restrictions as well as long-term experience in the fundamentals of the import and export law regimes. The practice prides itself on global, integrated advice for businesses facing challenges in multiple jurisdictions, all with the goal of helping them trade goods and services, open new markets and settle disputes. As business seeks to manage and capitalise on the proliferation of international trade agreements, the firm is well placed to advise businesses on avoiding risk and pursuing competitive advantages. The practice works closely with the firm’s subsidiary, C&M International, to craft government policies for countries.

Life Sciences:
A multi-disciplinary approach is required to meet the specialist needs of life sciences and biotechnology companies. A number of Crowell & Moring’s lawyers have a technical background in biotechnology or biomedical sciences, enabling them to quickly grasp the technical issues involved. The Life Sciences team offers clients all the legal services they require for the running of their business. This includes IP litigation and regulatory support, and advice on competition, corporate, commercial and employment matters.
