Work highlights

Represented the Latam Airlines Group in the appointment of KPMG as provisional liquidators following its US Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. The team subsequently advised on Latam's global restructuring plan, concerning debts of approximately USD2 billion.

Notable practitioners

Barnaby Gowrie rejoined the Cayman team in 2020 after spending the preceding few years in Walkers' Dubai office. He is well versed in restructuring and insolvency, especially as it relates to structured products. Sources describe him as "a strong lawyer" who is "very adaptable."

Chris Keefe is a standout senior counsel who has considerable experience assisting clients with insolvency proceedings and other commercial disputes. "He is a very good up-and-comer; an enthusiastic and hard-working lawyer," praised a source.

Colette Wilkins QC is an "excellent strategic thinker" who advises on shareholder disputes and white-collar fraud claims as well as highly contentious insolvency cases. Interviewees say she is "very defensive of her clients" and "quick to identify risks," in addition to being "a good advocate." She took silk in 2021.

Sources say Matthew Goucke is "very well respected for his advocacy skills." He offers considerable expertise in contentious insolvency, with a notable specialism regarding distressed investment funds. One peer reported: "I have a lot of respect for him. He's been in the market a long time and knows the court system very well."

Neil Lupton is "well established in the jurisdiction," enjoying a stellar reputation for restructuring and insolvency mandates. Sources declare him "a fantastic lawyer" who is "incredibly knowledgeable." His recent workload encompasses advice on global restructuring plans, liquidation proceedings and professional negligence claims against auditors.

Nick Dunne is noted for his strong capabilities in white-collar fraud cases. "Nick is very experienced in Cayman and knows the system very well. He is great to work with and is a very sensible and measured practitioner," commented one interviewee.

Rupert Bell is an experienced practitioner who regularly assists clients with insolvency proceedings and debt restructuring, particularly in relation to investment funds. "He is a very well-established and experienced partner who is well versed in cross-border issues," reported one interviewee.

Shelley White is noted for her skilled handling of insolvency matters and general commercial litigation. She also advises on trust disputes and white-collar fraud claims. Commentators note: "She is dynamic, forceful, focused and very available."
