Career

Richard has Ph.D.of Biochemistry and has more than 12 years’ experience of R&D work. He has strong technical background and familiar with drug registration procedure.

Richard has nearly 20 years'experience of litigating intellectual property disputes in China. He has successfully handled many complex and high-stake intellectual property cases, wherein two cases were selected as top 10 IP cases and four cases were selected as 50 exemplary cases by the Supreme People's Court in China.

Richard focuses on matters concerning patent infringement, patent invalidation, patent ownership and trade secret issues of the matters involve a diverse range of industries, including medicine, chemistry,medical device, communication chip and large industrial equipment. In the area of medicine, he handled many cases regarding biological medicine, chemical medicine, and Chinese herbal medicine. He also handled the first batch of patent-linkage cases in China after the patent-linkage system is involved in Chinese patent law.

Richard combines strong first-hand litigation experiences with a robust technical knowledge and is capable of finding best ways to present complex technical issues in trial and validity proceedings. He was selected as one of Top 50 IP lawyers in China and was recommended by Chambers and Partners.

• Represented Huntsman Advanced Materials (Switzerland)GmbH in a series of patent infringement litigations, the cases involve complicated organic chemistry analysis methods,such as nuclear magnetic resonance,mass spectrum,infra-red spectrum and ultraviolet spectrum,one of the cases was selected as 100 typical cases for the fifth anniversary of the establishment of the Intellectual Property Court of the Supreme People's Court in 2023

• Represented VMI HOLLAND B.V.in a series of trade secrete disputes, patent ownership disputes, patent infringement lawsuits and invalidation processes (involving tire manufacturing equipment)

• Represented an internationally renowned semiconductor company in a series of patent infringement lawsuits and invalidation processes

• Represented an internationally renowned memory semiconductor company in a series of patent infringement lawsuits and invalidation processes

• Represented AATM (Alantum Advanced Technology Materials (Dalian) Co.,Ltd.,and Alantum Advanced Technology Materials (Shenyang)Co.Ltd.)in a patent infringement litigation against Hunan Corun New Energy Co.,Ltd. (Top 10 IP cases by the SPC in 2013,involving a method of producing foamed nickel)

• Represented the patentee Shenzhen Mindray Bio-Medical Electronics Co.,Ltd in a patent invalidation administrative litigation against Shenzhen EDAN Instruments,INC.(50 example IP cases by the SPC in 2014, involving medical ultrasonic equipment)
