Waqar is a managing associate in the dispute resolution department, focusing on high value and complex indirect and direct tax cases. He regularly acts for FTSE 100 companies and high-net-worth individuals. Waqar qualified into the tax disputes team within one of the legal arms of the big four and has managed and resolved high profile matters at all levels from the Tax Tribunals up to the Supreme Court. He has considerable experience in judicial reviews and group litigation orders (one of which was independently ranked as the 'Top Case of 2017') and has had recent success in one of the largest cases ever to have been referred to the European Court. Waqar has had particular success in alternative dispute resolution methods and enjoys resolving disputes before they reach the courts. Waqar is a qualified member of the ATT and an active participant of the VAT Practitioners Group. Beyond contentious tax work, Waqar has general commercial litigation experience, particularly in matters relating to fraud. He is also part of the firm’s sports group (and has been quoted in The Times with regards to the ICC's laws on ball tampering) and automotive group respectively.
