Career

Tim Cornell is a litigation partner and a member of the firm’s Antitrust Group. A seasoned dealmaker with two and a half decades of experience, Mr. Cornell advises companies on complex antitrust matters spanning mergers and acquisitions regulatory review and clearances, intellectual property and technology licensing, supply and distribution agreements, joint venture formation and civil and criminal antitrust investigations. He regularly appears before the U.S. Federal Trade Commission and the U.S. Department of Justice and has advocated on behalf of his clients before the U.S. federal courts, state courts and international regulatory bodies.

With significant experience in successful domestic and international merger clearance, he regularly assists clients in navigating the merger control process, providing risk assessment and strategy to maximize deal value and certainty. Mr. Cornell also advises clients on business strategies and antitrust law compliance. Clients remark that his advice is commercial and practical.

His clients span a broad number of industries, including healthcare and life sciences, sports, technology and telecommunications, private capital, and consumer products.

Mr. Cornell is a recognized antitrust thought leader. He frequently speaks on antitrust topics at conferences (including those organized by Fordham University, Georgetown University, George Washington University, Northwestern University, Chatham House, Concurrences and the American Bar Association) and publishes in leading media (including Thomson Reuters, PLI, Corporate Compliance Insights, Corporate Counsel Business Journal, and Global Competition Review). He is frequently cited by the press as an industry expert including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Financial Times, Bloomberg, Merger Markets, The Deal, Politico, American Lawyer, MLEX, The Capitol Forum, Law360, and Private Equity International.

As a leading practitioner in the field, he was identified by Washington Magazine as a top antitrust lawyer, and is recognized by Legal 500 and Global Competition Review. He is the Co-Chair of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Merger Control Task Force, a member of the Competition Committee of the U.S. Chamber for International Business and a former vice-chair of the ABA Antitrust section Corporate Counselling Committee.

Mr. Cornell is a member of the Bar of New York and the Bar of the District of Columbia, and is admitted to practice before the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second and Seventh Circuits.

He received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law School in 2000 and his B.S. from the United States Naval Academy in 1992.
