Sven De Knop is partner in Sidley’s Global Arbitration, Trade and Advocacy group, focusing on international trade law and European Union law.
Sven assists clients in enforcement investigations before the European Commission and Member State authorities, including anti-fraud, anti-dumping, anti-subsidy and customs investigations.
He also advises on compliance matters and internal investigations, including as regards EU economic sanctions and export controls. He assists clients develop, audit and enhance compliance programs, and routinely conducts compliance reviews, risk assessments and due diligence related to mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and third-party engagements.
He also has a thriving litigation practice, focusing on litigation before the Court of Justice of the European Union and coordinating pan-European cases across Member States. He has extensive experience with EU regulatory issues in the areas of chemicals, steel and life sciences (including biotech, food and pharmaceuticals).
Sven has significant experience advising on government strategies, and has been advising clients on various aspects of the legal and policy implications of Brexit and the European Commission’s Green Deal.
Sven is a member of the Commission on External Trade of the American Chamber of Commerce to the European Union, the International Law Association and the International Bar Association (EU Trade Committee).
