Practice Areas

Sven leads Sidley’s EU trade practice and leads Sidley’s ex-US investment screening work. Sven has particular experience as regards:

• Subsidy controls and EU trade defense proceedings

• Foreign direct investment controls

• Economic sanctions and export controls

• Trade restrictive measures affecting free movement in the EU (including environmental regulation), and general market access

• Customs

Sven assists clients in international enforcement actions. He also assists clients in understanding how the relevant legal framework applies to their business; in the design and implementation of compliance programs; and with internal investigations and compliance audits.

A significant part of his practice concerns transactional support, where he assists in identifying and mitigating trade, subsidy and investment controls risks, and guiding clients through notification procedures, working closely with the Washington, D.C. national security practice and, as necessary, Sidley colleagues around the world.
