Career
Siobhan is a very experienced Silk practising exclusively in criminal defence work, specialising in cases of murder, organised crime and sexual offences. She has extensive experience of cross-examining witnesses and dealing with complex expert evidence.
Siobhan is repeatedly instructed to defend in high profile murder cases; she is tenacious in her approach and totally focused.
In 2021 she was instrumental in getting a conviction for murder overturned in the Court of Appeal with fresh evidence having been obtained by investigative journalists based in Warsaw, Poland. The Defendant was unanimously acquitted of murder and manslaughter after a retrial at the Old Bailey.
Siobhan acted for Nardis Maynard in the Privy Council appealing his conviction for murder in 2004 in St Kitts. He had been sentenced to imprisonment for life. In June 2024, the Privy Council overturned that conviction, agreeing with Siobhan that there had been a combination of failures and defects in his trial and his earlier appeal which meant that the conviction could not be sustained.
As well as conducting legal aid work, Siobhan is also regularly instructed across the country on a private basis in relation to Sexual Offences, because of her client care and cross-examination skills.
Siobhan has lectured and chaired seminars on scientific advances in criminal law and co-authored an article, An Avenue to Miscarriage in Forensic Science, Medicine and Pathology.
