Practice Areas

Simon is particularly sought after for his expertise in relation to financial professionals: IFAs, accountants, insurance brokers and mortgage brokers. He has acted in a series of leading cases relating to the powers and duties of the Financial Services Ombudsman and liabilities under FSMA 2000. He also acts in relation to claims against barristers and solicitors, and construction professionals.

He has particular expertise in limitation issues and in cases involving liability for the acts of agents.

Simon is often retained in cases involving alleged fraud, and since taking silk he has frequently advised on coverage and other insurance issues in the professional indemnity field.

He defends all kinds of professionals in disciplinary proceedings and he advises on professional regulatory issues.

He is a member of the PNBA and COMBAR, and is a case reviewer for Advocate, the Bar’s Pro Bono Charity.

Personal

Simon was educated at Magdalen College Oxford, called to the Bar in 1991 and took silk in 2022.
