Band 2
Provided by Scott A Brister
Scott’s experience spans the spectrum of appellate practice: state and federal, civil and criminal, commercial and personal injury. He returned to private practice in 2009 after 20 years of judicial service—6 years as a Justice on the Texas Supreme Court, 3 years on the First and Fourteenth Courts of Appeals (the first person to serve on both courts), and 11 years as a district court judge in Houston. As author of more than 600 appellate opinions and presiding judge in more than 670 trials, he has left his mark on Texas law and practice. In 2018 he served as chair of the Texas Commission on Public School Finance, a blue-ribbon panel of lawmakers and educators whose unanimous final report led to the adoption of landmark school finance laws by the Texas Legislature to improve public education for the state’s five million students. Scott is triple board-certified in civil appellate, civil trial, and personal injury trial law. He is an honors graduate of both Duke University and Harvard Law School.
