Sarah Wentz

Sarah is a trusted adviser to high-net-worth families and individuals. She guides clients in achieving a comprehensive strategy to manage their wealth and businesses and minimize tax exposure.

As Chair of the firm’s Family Offices Practice, Sarah leads a team that takes a holistic view of family wealth to provide a coordinated plan across corporate structuring and income, capital gains and estate and gift taxation. For ultra-busy clients, Sarah functions as a general counsel, anticipating issues, aligning stakeholders and resolving problems as they arise so clients can exhale.

Sarah’s approach is practical and relational. She integrates legal, tax, investment and family realities, coordinating seamlessly with accountants, private banks, private equity sponsors and others to ensure alignment of personal and corporate matters.

Sarah is recognized as an authority on estate and financial planning issues — particularly as they affect celebrities. She has been quoted in national and international media, including The New York Times, Variety, Bloomberg News and Associated Press, and interviewed on television by BBC, CNN and CBS.

Family Wealth Planning

Sarah takes a comprehensive view in advising clients on the legal aspects of maintaining and growing wealth. Her role extends beyond one-off planning to serving as general counsel to family offices nationwide, drawing on the group’s experience in structuring, governance, tax planning, fund formation, investment structuring, and succession across generations.

Private equity and founder work is a through-line in Sarah’s practice. She advises on PE fund formation; structures investments into and out of PE portfolios; executes tax-efficient planning for PE-held companies; and leads founder-level planning around major exits, including Section 1202/QSBS capital gains strategies as part of coordinated transaction readiness. This work frequently coincides with multibillion-dollar sale contexts and regular diligence on direct investments within family office portfolios.

Asset protection is embedded throughout Sarah’s engagements. Prenuptial planning is a standard component. She frequently employs Delaware asset protection trusts and complex situs/tax positioning to safeguard assets and enhance flexibility over time.

Entertainment

Sarah also maintains a sophisticated entertainment practice focused on high-value catalog sales and post-transaction family office structuring. She collaborates with transactional colleagues on posthumous rights and estate-asset acquisitions, a niche capability that buyers and sellers often overlook but that repeatedly proves decisive in complex deals.

Multi-State Domiciling

To assist clients in reaping the benefits of moving to more tax-friendly jurisdictions, Sarah advises individuals, couples and families on multi-state domicile and tax migration (e.g., NY/NJ/PA to Florida), integrating residency, tax, and estate considerations.

Prior to joining Fox, Sarah was a tax and corporate attorney in the Minneapolis office of a national law firm.
