Practice Areas
Sarah graduated from the University of Leeds with a First-Class Honours degree in Law and started working in the real estate sector when instructed by Gibraltar Residential Properties Limited in relation to the Government co-ownership schemes for Bayview Terraces and Cumberland Terraces. Over the years, her work branched into other property matters, and today, Sarah leads the property department at the firm. Her team’s assists and advises clients on all aspects of property law in Gibraltar and also acts for banks and lenders in relation to both large-scale real estate financing and smaller day-to-day security matters.
Sarah’s work is mainly focused on residential property, acting on real estate developments from the reservation stages, to exchange of contracts, through to completion and post-completion matters. Her recent work for developers includes the CitiHomes and One Bayside projects. She continues to act for the lessors and management companies of various existing developments, such as Kings Wharf, Atlantic Suites, Portland House and the Cornwall’s Centre.
Sarah acted for the Government of Gibraltar in the drafting of the original Fair Trading Act and the legal framework and supporting documents required for the establishment of an Office of Fair Trading in Gibraltar.
She also acted for the Government of Gibraltar in the drafting of the Lasting Powers of Attorney & Capacity Act 2018, which introduced much greater decision-making powers and autonomy for individuals who are concerned that they may in future lack the mental capacity to make their own decisions, both in relation to financial matters and health and welfare matters. The Act allows a donor to be able to plan ahead as to their future care and treatment. An LPA made in accordance with the Act means a donee/attorney has the authority to act for the person who made the LPA, even once that person has lost their mental capacity, which was previously not possible unless by an Order of the Court.
Sarah has presented various breakfast briefings, workshops and issued information brochures on the LPA legislation since it came into force
