Practice Areas
Ruud Brunninkhuis, partner and lawyer at BUREN, is an expert in (international) restructurings and insolvencies. He advises and litigates on (imminent) insolvencies, restructurings, Dutch scheme proceedings, distressed transactions, financing, directors' liability issues and in shareholder disputes. Ruud also specializes in corporate law and high-end debt collection and all means to this end, such as attachment of assets of the debtor. In addition, Ruud acts regularly as bankruptcy trustee. He is also available for appointments as a restructuring expert (herstructureringsdeskundige) and observer (observator) in Dutch Scheme proceedings.
Career
After an exchange at Columbia Law School in New York City, Ruud graduated as a lawyer and economist from the University of Amsterdam. Ruud successfully completed the INSOLAD/Grotius specialisation course in Insolvency Law in December 2015. In mid-2018, he successfully completed the Financial Economics for Insolvency Lawyers course. He regularly publishes and lectures on current developments in the area of (international) restructuring and insolvency. As a lawyer, Ruud has extensive experience in successfully establishing amicable creditor composition plans and WHOA proceedings. Ruud is particularly knowledgeable about the rules and case law in the field of the Act on the Confirmation of Private Plans (the Dutch Scheme or WHOA, its Dutch acronym).
Professional Memberships
Ruud is an active member of several professional organisations in the fields of insolvency, restructuring, and international law. He is affiliated with the Netherlands Association for Comparative and International Insolvency Law (NACIIL), the Corporate Litigation Association (VCL), and the Dutch Association of Insolvency Lawyers (INSOLAD). At an international level, he is a member of both INSOL Europe and INSOL International. He is further involved with the Dutch Restructuring Association and the Turnaround Management Association (TMA Nederland).
