Robert is an experienced and highly sought after junior specialising in commercial disputes, with a particular focus on shipping / shipbuilding, construction and energy. Much of his workload concerns high value and technical arbitrations, seated in London, Hong Kong, Singapore and Paris, where the governing law is frequently something other than English law. He has considerable experience in arguing cases governed by civil law systems. Robert has significant experience of acting for clients in the Asia-Pacific region. In litigation, Robert is regularly instructed in cases proceeding in the Commercial Court, TCC, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.
Recent highlights of Robert’s work include acting for a Chinese SOE main contractor on a major infrastructure project in proceedings resolved by way of Paris ICC arbitration, acting for the shipyard in the Supreme Court appeal from Shanghai Shipyard v Reignwood [2021] EWCA Civ 1147, acting for the buyers of two newbuild semi-submersible drillrigs in very high-value termination disputes against a Singaporean shipyard, an HKIAC arbitration governed by PRC law concerning the supply of petrochemical processing equipment and an HKIAC arbitration governed by Hong Kong law about the construction of a platform supply vessel.
