Practice Areas
Alex’s practice areas are: (i) sanctions and export control; (ii) business crime, investigations, and the debarment frameworks of Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs); (iii) international arbitration – often involving International Organisations; (iv) international administrative law and the institutional law of International Organisations including their privileges and immunities; and (v) international regulatory and disciplinary proceedings.
Much of Alex’s instructions involve appearing before international courts and tribunals in Washington DC, New York, London, and other headquarters of International Organisations such as Jeddah, Addis Ababa, and Geneva. Alex has been instructed in cases involving more than 45 International Organisations and has appeared before dozens of International Administrative Tribunals and judicial bodies including those of the World Bank Group, EBRD, IADB, Islamic Development Bank, OAS, and United Nations.
Alex’s unusual practice leads to instructions on multidisciplinary and cross-border issues involving economic sanctions, investigations, International Organisations, and the anti-corruption frameworks of MDBs.
Career
Alex is admitted to practise at the Bars of England & Wales, Ireland, New York, and Washington DC. He is a specialist in international law and sanctions, with expertise in International Organisations and the debarment frameworks of Multilateral Development Banks and has appeared before international courts and tribunals including those of the UN and World Bank Group.
