Richard Wright KC recently completed a three-year term as Leader of The North Eastern Circuit. He is Head of Park Square Barristers, a Crown and County Court Recorder, a Deputy High Court Judge and has been in silk for over ten years. Richard is consistently recognised in legal directories in the highest bands and noted as being a “masterful silk”.
His practice comprises of some of the highest profile cases in Serious and Complex Crime, Regulatory Crime, Consumer Law and Inquests and Inquiries.
He is one of the ten King’s Counsel instructed by Baroness Hallett as Counsel to the UK Covid Inquiry and has recently been appointed by the Select Committee of Tynwald to undertake an Independent Review into the management by the Isle of Man Government of the Ranson versus Department of Health and Social Care employment case.
He is regularly instructed by Specialist Crime and Counter Terrorism Division and has conducted many high-profile cases in the Court of Appeal and the Administrative Court, several of which have established important legal principles.
Significant past cases have included prosecuting Wearside Jack for the Yorkshire Ripper hoax tapes, defending William Cornick for the murder in class of Leeds teacher Anne Maguire, prosecuting the first ever case of manslaughter by gross negligence related to food allergy, prosecuting Pawel Relowicz for the rape and murder of Hull student Libby Squire, and recently prosecuting David Boyd for the 1992 murder of 7 year old Nikki Allan in Sunderland.
