Richard Myers is a Member of Stites & Harbison and a Registered U.S. Patent Attorney. His practice focuses on patent-related aspects of intellectual property, including counseling clients on patent infringement, patent validity, and patentability. He has more than two decades of experience with the patent prosecution process. As a former patent examiner and an attorney in the private sector, he has examined or prosecuted over 600 patent applications. With an academic background in chemistry, Richard's practice primarily focuses on life sciences technology, including a wide variety of chemical and pharmaceutical arts.

Richard’s chemical patent practice also includes substantial work in surfactant chemistry, personal care formulations, and specialty chemical technologies, including shampoo and conditioner compositions, anionic and amphoteric surfactant systems, cationic deposition polymers, coacervate-forming systems, alkyl polyglucoside derivatives, and formulation technologies for cleansing, conditioning, deposition, and materials-performance applications. He also maintains a significant portfolio in papermaking and paper-based technologies, including paper coatings, barrier coatings, packaging materials, fiber-based products, wet-end chemistry, and related manufacturing processes, as well as pharmaceutical and life sciences matters involving small-molecule drug discovery, organic compounds, therapeutic methods of use, and formulation technologies.

While serving as a patent examiner, Richard examined patent applications directed to organic chemical compounds, and their methods of use. He issued patents to many international companies.

Richard serves as the office executive member to the firm’s Nashville office.
