He holds a law degree from the Faculty of Law at the University of Chile and, in 2000, completed The Academy of American and International Law offered by the International and Comparative Law Center of the Southwestern Legal Foundation (Dallas, USA). He later worked as an international associate at the law firm Thompson & Knight (Houston, USA).
