Career

Qiang GAO is the senior partner at Landing Law Offices, also the head of the Intellectual Property department of Landing Law Offices. He has been practicing IP law for more than 12 years, with extensive theoretical and practical experience in intellectual property rights, unfair competition, international civil and commercial disputes, and non-litigation fields. His clients are mainly in telecommunications, media, entertainment, and technologies.

GAO began his legal career at Dentons Shanghai Office when graduated from East China University of Political Science and Law in 2010. Up to now, He has handled more than 200 litigation and arbitration cases related to intellectual property rights and unfair competition for domestic and overseas clients, involving trademarks, patents, copyright, trade-secrets protection, domain names, franchises, and technology transfer and development disputes, as well as other contract and infringement cases.

Work Highlights

1.Represented a natural person YUE in a lawsuit against Libo ZHOU, a Chinese stand-up comedian, for his reverse infringement of the Internet domain name zhoulibo.com, and facilitated a settlement between the two parties. The case was awarded as the “Top 50 Typical Cases of Judicial Protection of Intellectual Property by the Supreme People’s Court in 2012” and the “Top 10 Typical Cases of Judicial Protection of Intellectual Property in Shanghai in 2012”;

2.Provided legal services for Shenzhen IMUSE Technology Ltd. in response to a copyright infringement lawsuit, proposing the defense that industrial production doesn’t infringe reproduction rights, which was accepted by the court. Attorney GAO helped the client win the lawsuit, gaining high recognition from the client. The case was the first case involving a dispute over the copyright of product design drawings;

3.Provided legal services to defend the copyright rights of 30 products under the Zuny brand of Taiwan Global State Ltd. and obtained a court award of more than CNY 2.4 million in economic damages, a record high amount of compensation for similar copyright infringements. The case involves the highest amount of compensation awarded by a Shanghai district court after the implementation of the third amendment of the Copyright Law in 2021.
