Experience

Peter is a Partner in the firm’s London office, specializing in public international law, sanctions and business and human rights. He has represented states, businesses and individuals in some of the leading cases in his field, in the UK and internationally. In addition to his disputes practice, Peter advises States and multinationals on a range of public international law issues, including human rights, immunities and climate change.

Specializing in complex, geopolitical disputes, Peter's disputes practice ranges across jurisdictions and disciplines. He has represented States in proceedings at the ICJ, ITLOS, and the European Court of Human Rights (including in the leading international cases on climate change). He has represented businesses and individuals in war crimes prosecutions, tort claims involving extra-territorial environmental harm, cases relating to sovereign immunity and in EU and UK sanctions annulment proceedings. Both in private practice and as a legal adviser to the UK Foreign Office, Peter has considerable experience advising on cross-cutting issues of extra-territorial jurisdiction and conflict of laws.

In his advisory practice, Peter has worked with some of the largest companies in the world on the design and implementation of human rights due diligence programs across complex global operations and supply chains, including in relation to conflicting obligations. He has advised multiple companies on their public disclosures on modern slavery and broader human rights issues. And he has advised states on alignment with international human rights and labour standards, treaty negotiation, hosting major sporting events and engagement at the UN and other international organisations.
