Paula leads the International practice of the IP Department, in charge of all matters in which our clients request services for Latin America. Thanks to her 13+ years of experience, our international practice includes now all Latin America, Dominican Republic, also Canada, United States, China and India, in coordination with our associated local firms. In these countries she advises on litigation actions, on administrative, civil, and criminal level. Paula has been very active in the International Trademark Association (INTA), in which she has participated in the Internet Committee and the Enforcement Committee. Because of her enthusiasm and participation in the Enforcement Committee, this would be her 3rd term working in these Committee’s goals. At her young age, she was appointed as a leader for the Preliminary Injunctions Task Force for the term 2022-2023 coordinating the work of other 18 members, in which she assisted in all of the efforts for Harmonization and Advocacy Work of Preliminary Injunctions and studies and analysis for the innovative figures like Dynamic Blocking Injunctions and Anti-suit Injunctions. She presented issues around Dynamic Blocking Injunctions in a judge’s workshop in Argentina, prepared a discussion with Chinese authorities in relation to Preliminary Injunctions, assisted in a presentation of the minimum standards of Preliminary Injunctions for WIPO, among other activities. The INTA awarded Paula with the “High Performance Committee Member” in 2022 https://www.inta.org/wp-content/uploads/public-files/about/committees/HPCM_020823.pdf . She has been appointed as a Co-Chair of the Administrative and Judicial and Administrative Trademark Litigation Subcommittee of the INTA for the 2023-2024 term, where she leads 5 different Task Forces, with 60 members. This Annual Meeting in San Diego, Paula has been appointed to moderate a session on Dynamic Blocking Injunctions, and also she is part of the INTA’s Annual Meeting Project Team. Being from Guatemala, we are very proud of this, since she is the only Central American with this honour; and 1 of 2 Latin Americans with such positions in the conference. Paula enjoys educating and promoting IP awareness activities and has coordinated educational trainings in Intellectual Property matters in schools in Guatemala along with the American Chamber of Commerce of Guatemala (AMCHAM), and also with customs officials and health authorities and judges, pro bono. She has been a professor at Galileo University of Guatemala the Intellectual Property, and also an assistant professor at Universidad Francisco Marroquin, and invited professor in Universidad del Istmo. Paula has also been an external consultant for the Secretariat of Central American Integration -SIECA (SECRETARIA DE INTEGRACIÓN CENTROAMERICANA)- in association with the EU in a program for implementing IP strategies and educational programs for protection of IP Assets, and now for training authorities in Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. Paula is a candidate to the master’s degree in Intellectual Property and Innovation in the San Andres University from Argentina in partnership with WIPO (finishing on November 2021). Paula has been ranked in Legal 500 as a Rising Star, and in Chambers & Partners as an Associate to Watch. Paula is in the project of expanding our firm’s presence to be closer to our European and Asian clients, since she is now based in Madrid, Spain.
