With 24+ years of experience in IP, currently co-directs the IP department of the Firm. He´s involved in complex litigation cases, in which he directs the legal strategy and negotiations with remarkable ease, ethics and elegance. He was one of the leading experts in negotiating free trade agreements representing the Guatemalan Government. Hector has extensive experience in advising diverse clients in industries such as Software, Pharmaceutical, Food and Beverages and others, on several issues across the entire Latin American region and has considerable knowledge from the commercial and industrial point of view as he practices corporate law as well, currently leading the firm’s effort to conduct the Near Shoring Policy that the US is having with Guatemala (Yazaki Corporation). His clients trust him with IP litigation matters, which he directs together with the Litigation department of the firm, implementing IP strategies in all the different stages of the processes for protection of IP Assets. Hector also has an academic side of IP, since has been a professor in different universities and trade chambers. He is a member of INTA and has participated in the Committee of General Trademarks Enforcement Matters, the Unfair Competition Committee and currently is a member of the Anticounterfeiting Committee, where in the past term he is acting as leader of the group identifying Polycriminality and IP Crime issues worldwide. He is a member of the AGEXPORT (Asociacion de Exportadores de Guatemala) and of the Board to the Service exportation Committee working towards exporting more services from Guatemala, leading efforts to have Guatemala on the spotlight for this trade. He has been ranked in Chambers & Partners, Legal 500, WTR and Who’s Who Latin America Edition for several years now. Hector has had an incredible trajectory in the IP field so he is very much recognized and appreciated by peers, colleagues and authorities, as a referent person in the industry.
