Nicholas Fletcher KC has been active in the arbitration of international commercial disputes for over 40 years. Nicholas is admitted to practise in England & Wales and in New York. After training as a barrister, he practised at Haight, Gardner, Poor & Havens in New York, before becoming a partner in the international arbitration team at Clifford Chance. After 23 years at Clifford Chance, Nicholas joined Berwin Leighton Paisner to lead its arbitration practice. In December 2014 he joined 4 New Square and sits exclusively as an independent arbitrator. Nicholas has conducted arbitrations under a variety of institutional and procedural rules. He has handled numerous very high-value LCIA and ICC disputes, as well as matters under the rules of UNCITRAL, AAA, SIAC, SCC, DIFC-LCIA and DIAC. He has dealt with cases involving investment treaties and a range of national laws, including England, New York, France, Germany, Hungary, Spain, Russia, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia, Cyprus, Alberta and the UAE. He has particular experience of arbitrating energy disputes, corporate, JV and financing disputes, pharmaceutical and technology and construction matters. As arbitrator, Nicholas has served on more than 70 panels, and has acted extensively as chair and as sole arbitrator. Nicholas sits on the ICC’s task force on the New York Convention, and the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for International Arbitration Advocacy. He is the rapporteur for England for the ITA and a member of the LCIA, ICC, and ICCA. He is on the panel of arbitrators of numerous international arbitral institutions.
