Experience

He is a member of the board of Interlaw since 2018. He was president of the Board of Directors of Insuralex (2019-2020). President of the Costa Rican Association of Insurance Law and Suretyship (ACODES), AIDA Costa Rica Section, 2012-2020. In addition, he is the coordinator of the Legal Committee of the Association of Private Insurers of Costa Rica (AAP), the Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Costa Rican-Italian Chamber of Industry and Commerce and a member of the Civil and Commercial Law Committee of the Costa Rican Bar Association. He is also a member of the Costa Rica Forever Association, Costa Rica’s environmental fund, and a member of the Costa Rican Corporate Governance Institute. In addition, he was president of the Costa Rican Association of International Law Philip C. Jessup (ACODI) and is an arbitrator on the list of Eligible Arbitrators for the Solution of Controversies in Financial Services, Free Trade Agreement between Central America, the United States, and the Dominican Republic. In 2018, he was the first lawyer in Central America invited to join the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC). He is an arbitrator and has been a member of and presided various arbitration panels, both for the Conciliation and Arbitration Center (CCA) of the Costa Rican Chamber of Commerce, as well as the Center for International Conciliation and Arbitration (CICA) of the Costa Rican-North American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham). He is an officer of the International Bar Association’s (IBA) Women Lawyers’ Interest Group (WIG) since 2018.

In his more than 25 years of experience, he has advised on mergers and acquisitions, asset acquisitions, corporate reorganizations, and agency and distribution agreements in which he has represented national and transnational companies.

In the area of Insurance & Reinsurance has extensive knowledge in licensing and regulatory matters, reinsurance transactions, insurance contracts, and complex litigation on behalf of the main insurance companies in Central America and reinsurers with business interests in the region.

Work Highlights

He has been a speaker on several issues of insurance law and regulation in the Inter-American Federation of Insurance Companies (FIDES), Pan American Surety Association (PASA), Pan American Confederation of Insurance Producers (COPAPROSE), International Center for Conciliation and Arbitration and Chamber Costa Rican Trade Association (CICA – AmCham).

Since 2007 he is a professor at the University of Costa Rica, where he has taught course on “Civil Law”, “Principles of Contracts Law” and “Insurance Law” at the Faculty of Law and “Insurance Distribution” at the Faculty of Economic Sciences.
