Practice Areas
Matthew Wyard is a specialist public law barrister. He is equally happy undertaking contentious and non contentious matters and has a focus on judicial review, education and Court of Protection. He is appointed to the Attorney General’s C Panel of Counsel.
In the public law/judicial review field, he provides strategic advice to regulators and public bodies on their vires, decision making, as well as undertaking the necessary drafting and advocacy when those decisions are challenged in the Administrative Court. He has experience in matters concerning education, health, social care, immigration, planning, finance and information law.
His education practice focuses predominantly on bringing and defending judicial reviews claims for and against local authorities concerning their obligations to children and young people with special educational needs.
Court of Protection work makes up a significant part of Matthew’s practice. Whilst he focuses on property and affairs disputes, he also provides non contentious advice and drafting services to deputies, attorneys and trustees where the need arises. He is equally as comfortable in representing individuals and public bodies in health and welfare disputes.
Away from Court, Matthew hosts Cop Comm, 3PB’s Court of Protection and Community Care podcast and has co-authored two leading education law textbooks.
