Alexis Hearnden is an experienced advocate with a successful regulatory and public law practice.

Alexis acts for regulators and those they regulate across a range of professions including solicitors, barristers, doctors, dentists, nurses, fertility clinics, architects and vets. In the world of sport, she advises national governing bodies, particularly on safeguarding matters. Alexis appears before disciplinary tribunals, in statutory appeals, and in judicial reviews. Over the past decade, Alexis has appeared in a significant number of key cases in the area, both in the High Court and the Court of Appeal. On the regulatory side, much of Alexis’ advisory work is in the legal sector e.g. compliance obligations and money laundering regulations. She is a member of the editorial board of the Law Society’s “Legal Compliance Bulletin”. In the healthcare sector Alexis advises in relation to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act and advises regulators on published guidance on mental capacity.

Alexis’ broader public law practice encompasses the Court of Protection (welfare and property and affairs), mental health tribunals and judicial reviews. Court of Protection work includes cases concerning serious medical treatment (including advanced decisions to refuse treatment), capacity to engage in sexual relations, forced marriage, residence disputes and deprivations of liberty. On the property and affairs side, Alexis acts in cases concerning the conduct of deputies (drawing on her regulatory experience) and LPAs.
