Matthew’s practice is focused on tax litigation. Matthew has extensive experience in domestic and international matters with particular focus on the application of Canada’s general anti-avoidance rule.

Matthew Williams is a partner and practices in the firm’s Toronto office.

Matthew’s practice focuses on all aspects of taxpayer representation. He has appeared before the Tax Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Ontario Superior Court, the Ontario Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada on a wide range of domestic and international issues.

Matthew leads the firm’s Toronto tax litigation group. Matthew has been involved in a number of landmark Canadian tax cases and has been widely recognized as a leader in tax dispute resolution. Matthew has appeared before all levels of court in Canada including the Supreme Court of Canada. Matthew’s clients include private equity funds, multi-national corporations, trust companies and high net worth individuals. Matthew is an editor of Tax Litigation Quarterly.

Matthew has been recognized by Lexpert as a Most Frequently Recommended Corporate Tax Litigator and was included in the Lexpert Special Edition: Canada’s Leading Litigation Lawyers.
