Personal

Mary Jo and her husband homeschooled their children and started bringing them along on their U.S. and international travels when the kids were very young. They knew their kids were ready for anything when at five and nine, they hiked the Kalalau Trail on Kauai Island in Hawaii and they exclaimed “this is better than Disneyworld!” They’ve since had many adventures in Europe, South and Central America, the Caribbean, Australia, New Zealand and southeast Asia. The family also enjoys spending time at their place on Lake Michigan. Mary Jo is a voracious reader, often reading five to six books contemporaneously, mixing novels, history, biographies, science, economics, etc. She also enjoys ballroom dancing and singing in choral groups, including close harmony a cappella. Recently, Mary Jo has worked with her dog Simba to become certified as part of a therapy dog team; she plans to work primarily with children and young people in hospital and school settings.
