INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
In her professional career, Mariana has had the opportunity to develop in various areas of law. However, for over eleven years, she has specialized in Intellectual Property, holding different positions in both the public and private sectors.
Currently, as a Partner at the firm, she focuses on developing strategies for the protection of intellectual property rights—particularly in the field of trademarks—providing legal advice on the international registration of trademarks under the Madrid Protocol, and offering consultancy services on domain name registration, as well as the protection of copyrights, geographical indications, cultural expressions, traditional knowledge, and trade secrets. She is also actively involved in due diligence processes related to mergers and acquisitions of national and international companies.
During her time at the Legal Affairs Division of the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI), Mariana was responsible for the legal defense of the Institute before various authorities. In the International Affairs Division, she collaborated with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on joint projects with IMPI, including cooperation initiatives with WIPO’s Arbitration and Mediation Center.
She also served as a representative of Mexico in multiple international forums and organizations dealing with intellectual property matters, such as the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). Additionally, she participated in the review and negotiation of the intellectual property chapters of various international agreements, including the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), the Pacific Alliance, and the Mexico–Jordan Free Trade Agreement, among others.
