Lucia Ancona Lopez de Magalhães Dias heads the Consumer and Regulatory Law practice at Magalhães & Dias. She is known by her clients for her knowledge and active participation in cases, providing consultancy and representing major corporations in complex administrative and judicial procedures (both individual and colletive lawsuits) involving the most diverse topics of Consumer Law.
She often has a decisive role in complex recall cases, leading class actions, and advertising campaigns. Lucia is also an expert in product liability claims and unfair competition and is often seen representing her heavyweight clientele before PROCON, SENACON, (State and/or Federal) Prosecutors, and the superior courts.
Her knowledge of the food and beverage regulatory applicable norms is remarkable. Lucia represents clients from a wide range of sectors, such as automobiles & parts, commercial & professional services, consumer product manufacturing, education, fertilizer, health care, food and beverage, media/advertising, pharmaceutical & life sciences, retail, software & computer services, technology, hardware & electronics, telecom, and travel & leisure.
Lucia holds a PhD from the University of São Paulo (USP) and is also guest professor at renowned institutions. She has authored several publications, including the reputed “Advertising and Law” ("Publicidade e Direito", currently in its third edition, and with a new edition forthcoming in 2024),which is regularly referenced by the courts in cases involving abusive and misleading advertising and unfair competition.
Her strong stakeholder engagement and credibility before authorities and scholars are very much praised by her clients. She has built her reputation on being reliable and trustworthy. She appears as a former director of consumer relations at IBRAC and is currently a member of its Consumer Committee, as well as Director of Brasilcon (Brazilian Consumer Policy and Law Institute). In 2020, she was invited and also has coordinated important publications in the field to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Consumer Defense Code.
