Eminent Practitioners
Provided by Lloyd Parker
Intellectual Property, Media, and Technology
With over 35 years’ experience in intellectual property matters, Lloyd is highly sought after by clients for his creative and commercial solutions to global IP matters. His particular focus within IP is on global trademark matters, contentious and non-contentious, with experience in a broad range of industry sectors. As the longest serving Partner of our regional IP Group, his experience covers all aspects of IP. He is recognised by every independent legal directory as a leading IP lawyer in Japan.
Due to the broad nature of his legal experience in a variety of legal areas beyond IP and his past position as the APAC Regional Managing Partner and membership of our firm’s top global management team, he is also well positioned to help clients by identifying and collaborating with Partners in our global network on legal matters beyond IP. In particular, he regularly works with our regulatory and commercial attorneys.
A distinctive feature of his service to clients is his commercial and practical perspective and approach. This is driven from his own business knowledge and experience which stems from several sources including his business/commerce studies at universities both in Australia and Japan, his experience working as a management consultant at one of the world’s most famous management consultancy firms and being a former member of our International Management Committee (our firm’s highest management body comprising just 9 Partners).
Lloyd has more than 35 years’ association with Japan, including living and working in Japan for over 20 years. He is fluent in Japanese. He studied Japanese in Japan for two years – one year at Doshisha University and one year at Kyoto University of Foreign Studies. He is particularly passionate about his involvement in the firm’s pro-bono services to and interaction with the Japanese Para-Sports Association and the Japan Riding Association for the Disabled.
