Practice Areas

Mr. Kyle J. Choi is a senior foreign attorney at Shin & Kim, providing legal services in the areas of intellectual property (IP) and international dispute resolution.

Mr. Choi is a registered patent agent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and a former patent examiner. With over 10 years of experience in patent examination, he has handled a broad range of technologies, including mechanical, electrical, telecommunications, and computer-related fields. He has also successfully managed numerous IP disputes before U.S. federal courts, the International Trade Commission (ITC), and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).

Notably, Mr. Choi previously led the Standard Essential Patents (SEP) team at a major Korean electronics, IT, and telecommunications company, where he was responsible for international standards and licensing strategy. He also possesses in-depth and practical expertise in international litigation—particularly U.S. patent litigation and contractual disputes—gained from his experience at global law firms. Building on this background, he currently leads the International Litigation Practice Group at Shin & Kim, working closely with local counsel and experts to effectively manage and support Korean companies involved in civil litigation in the United States and other foreign jurisdictions.

In addition, Mr. Choi serves as co-head of the firm’s Forensic·Discovery Center, where he advises on all aspects of discovery procedures, including eDiscovery, in the context of U.S. litigation and regulatory investigations. His expertise extends beyond basic document review to providing strategic and procedural guidance on practical response to issues such as implementing legal hold obligations and developing privilege review frameworks.

Mr. Choi is a graduate of the University of Virginia with a degree in electrical engineering, and received his J.D. (magna cum laude) from the Catholic University, Columbus School of Law in Washington D.C.
