Career
Kelly Yap is the Managing Director of Ming Law Asia LLC. He advises on a full range of commercial disputes, with a particular focus on international trade and shipping matters. His work includes charterparty and bill of lading disputes, cargo and contamination claims, bunker disputes, crew claims, demurrage and off-hire issues, and disputes arising from ship repair, construction, management and agency arrangements.
Kelly also handles wet shipping matters involving collisions, groundings, fires, salvage, loss of life and other marine casualties. He regularly advises on marine insurance issues and acts for commodity traders in disputes concerning quality, shortage and cargo damage.
He has extensive experience with vessel arrests, acting for both arresting parties and shipowners, and with applications for urgent relief, injunctions and asset preservation measures. Kelly also represents companies, shareholders and creditors in commercial disputes involving fraud, breaches of directors’ duties, governance issues and shareholders' disputes.
His practice includes litigation before the Singapore courts and international arbitration under various institutional and ad hoc rules. In addition to commercial and shipping matters, Kelly advises family-owned businesses and private clients on disputes relating to trusts, succession and asset-holding structures.
