Practice Areas
Karen has considerable experience in all areas of children law with a particular emphasis on complex child protection cases and private law matters.
Karen’s public law practice has a particular emphasis on complex public law cases involving serious injuries to and/or death of children, including fractures, burns, bruising, FII, complex medical case sexual abuse, and significant emotional abuse. She appears in multi-week trials and complex matters representing local authorities, Guardians, children and parents, including those with learning needs and mental health difficulties who require the assistance of the Official Solicitor. In addition, Karen represents parties in adoption proceedings.
In her private law practice Karen frequently appears in complex and high conflict cases relating to children, involving serious allegations of domestic abuse, parental alienation and requiring a Rule 16 Guardian. She often represents mothers, fathers, children and relatives, including individuals with serious psychiatric and psychological conditions. Karen is also known for representing individuals in cases with an international element, including relocation and adoptions cases.
Karen is an approved direct access family barrister and accepts instructions directly from the public without the need for a solicitor, acting under the Bar’s public access rules.
