Practice Areas
Kamil Valiyev is a Partner and Co-Managing Officer in Dentons' Baku office. Kamil is a member of the firm’s Corporate Group, Intellectual Property, Data and Technology Group and Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group.
He has an extensive experience in advising private and public organizations in local and cross-border merger/acquisitions and commercial transactions in various sectors. He focuses his practice in the area of energy law, corporate law, intellectual property law and technology, project development and trade compliance.
Since 2007, Kamil Valiyev has been advising multinational companies on the establishment of joint ventures and strategic alliances with Azerbaijani private and state owned companies and their exit from such joint ventures and alliances, and acquisition of participation interests therein. He also advises clients on investment related regulatory and legal issues concerning energy (renewables and production sharing agreements) and telecom sectors and also assists clients on IP related regulatory and transactional matters. He also represents clients at local courts and state authorities in connection with commercial and administrative/regulatory disputes.
Career
Kamil has worked as a legal counsel for the Legal Department of the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies (now the Ministry of Digital Development and Transportation) of the Republic of Azerbaijan and led the Department for the Legal Support of International Projects at SOCAR Head Office. He also teaches Information Law and Energy Law course at Baku State University and AI Law at the ADA University.
Professional Memberships
Kamil leads the Legal and Compliance Committee at AMCHAM Azerbaijan and the IT and Communications Law working group at the Azerbaijani Bar Association.
He is a member of the CIS-FSU Regional Committee of the AIEN (former AIPN).
He is also a member of the Collegium of Advocates of Azerbaijan since 2018 and to the Bar, New York State, U.S., in January 2016.
