Career

Jose Miguel is a lawyer from the Catholic University of Peru and holds an LLM degree from the University of Chicago.

From 2000 through 2009, served as Chief Corporate and Commercial Counsel of Nextel Peru, leading and managing corporate, commercial, labor, taxation, administrative, intellectual property, advertising and litigation issues for the company.

From 2009 through 2013 served as Director – Senior Commercial Counsel for NII Holdings, Inc. (a Fortune 500 Company and holding company of Nextel Peru) and responsible for negotiating major cross-border transactions in the US and Latin America, including (i) commercial and technology transactions for the purchase of infrastructure, hardware, software, devices and services for the deployment of Nextel’s 3G services; for the development, integration, testing, implementation and training of new systems; software customization, configuration and installation; hosting and portal agreements; built to suit, tower sale-leaseback and collocation agreements, outsourcing agreements, among others; and (ii) M&A and Financing transactions for the purchase of entities and assets and, syndicated facilities, export financing and vendor financing transactions.

He is the founding Partner at Porto Legal since July 2014, a leading telecom and technology boutique law firm in Peru.
