Career

José Ángel Santiago Ábrego is a Partner at SAI Law & Economics and one of Mexico’s leading practitioners in competition, regulatory and administrative litigation. He graduated with honours from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) in 2010 and holds a postgraduate diploma in Tort Liability and State Liability from the same institution.

Since 2018, José Ángel has advised and represented domestic and international clients in high-stakes administrative and constitutional litigation, with a particular focus on antitrust and regulated industries, including electricity, hydrocarbons, ports, telecommunications, broadcasting, banking and capital markets. Prior to joining SAI, he became partner of a leading Mexican law firm at the age of 26 and later founded his own practice before being invited to join SAI.

He combines private practice with an active academic and institutional profile. Since 2017, he has served as Professor of Constitutional Procedures at ITAM’s School of Law. He is currently President of the National Association of Corporate Counsel (ANADE) for the 2025–2026 term and Vice-President of The General Council of the Mexican Legal Profession (CGAM).

Before entering private practice, José Ángel held positions within the Federal Competition Commission and Mexico’s Ministry of the Interior, gaining valuable insight into public administration and regulatory processes.

Widely recognised in the legal market, he has been ranked individually by Chambers and Partners Latin America for more than ten consecutive years and has been included among Legal 500’s “Leading Individuals” in Competition since 2019. He has also been recognised by Thomson Reuters Stand-out Lawyers and other leading legal directories.

A prolific author and commentator, José Ángel is a weekly columnist for Eje Central and co-author of leading publications on competition law and telecommunications regulation, in addition to numerous articles published in Abogado Corporativo.
