Career

Jorge Menezes joined FCLaw Lawyers & Private Notaries as a partner in 2017. He acted as counsel in Macau, Portugal and Lao PDR courts, as well as in domestic, ICSID and international commercial arbitrations. Jorge submitted reports and/or acted as an expert witness in the United States, Singapore, Australia, United Kingdom and Hong Kong (Department of Justice). He has been involved in multi-billion USD cases, including as lead lawyer and expert witness. He was distinguished by newspapers Macau Business and Ponto Final as one of the 20 Most Influential Persons in Macau SAR's history, and by Macau Daily Times as the “Person of the Year” in its “2018 Year in Review”, which had also awarded him an “Honourable Mention” for a “historic win” in a complex legal action in its “2013 Year in Review”. As an academic, he studied in Lisbon, Cambridge and Oxford Universities, and lectured in Portugal, Guinea-Bissau and United Kingdom (University of Oxford).

Jorge Menezes presented several papers in conferences in Oxford, London, Hong Kong, Lisbon and elsewhere. He published articles in academic journals in Portugal, Macau, Hong Kong and England, and contributed with articles in five edited books. Jorge has also published newspaper articles in Hong Kong, Macau and Portugal.
