Practice Areas

Jonathan's practice covers all aspects of planning, property and environmental control, housing, commercial and infrastructure and village greens, as well as complex planning enforcement work and compensation cases.

Recent appearances include Suffolk Coastal DC v Hopkins Homes [2017] (SC) on the meaning of the NPPF and NHS Property Services v Jones [2018] (HC & CA) on village greens and statutory incompatibility.

Major development projects include Amex Stadium, Brighton, where he represented Brighton and Hove Albion F.C. at the inquiry and in the courts and, more recently, a scheme for the major regeneration of Bognor Regis, acting for the successful appellant.

His recent success in planning appeals at Eden Park secured two planning permissions for major housing development on open land in Bromley, followed in 2019 by further success in obtaining permission for housing in the Green Belt at Hayes and again in 2020 at Potters Farm, also in Bromley.

Jonathan represented the Royal Surrey County Hospital in their successful appeal with full award of costs against Guildford B.C.

He works for both appellants and local planning authorities and advises on local plans, having appeared at several local plan EIPs.
