Having unique experience as a licensing lawyer over the last 25 years he has worked as inhouse Counsel for two pub companies, as a legal adviser to Licensing Justices in the Magistrates Court, as a legal adviser to a Local Authority Licensing Committee and of course in private practice. He can see a case from every angle both legally and commercially and consistently delivers outstanding service and results, from applications in local authority committee rooms to the administrative Court on judicial review.
Career
Jon qualified in 1993 in a less than conventional way, training in the Magistrates Court and undertaking a law degree via a distance learning course. Leaving the Court service in 1996 to specialise in licensing and criminal defence work. In 2003 he worked for Portsmouth City Council before moving to Yates’s Pub Company as in-house Counsel in 2004 and thereafter at Laurel Pub Company on their acquisition of Yates’s, steering the company through the licensing reform in 2005. Returning to private practice in 2006 where he headed up the licensing team at Blake Morgan LLP before joining John Gaunt & Partners in May 2018.
