Jo Delaney

Jo is a Partner in HFW’s Construction team, specialising in complex cross border dispute resolution with particular focus on international arbitration.

With 25 years of experience in all forms of international arbitration, including commercial, construction and investment treaty arbitration. Jo has conducted arbitrations under all of the major arbitral institutional rules, including the ICC, LCIA, SIAC, AAA, UNCITRAL and ICSID arbitration rules, relating to cross border disputes in all regions around the world. Jo acts as arbitrator as well as counsel.

Jo has extensive experience advising on and resolving disputes in the construction industry for various types of projects including infrastructure, energy and resource projects in Australia as well as Asia and the Middle East. She has worked on renewable projects, such as wind and solar farms, as well as infrastructure projects including power plants, rail, road and tunnel projects. Jo has also worked on climate change and environmental disputes and various types of commercial disputes.

Jo also has extensive experience of investment treaty arbitrations having represented both investors and state parties in many arbitrations under the ICSID Convention and arbitration rules and the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules since the growth of these arbitrations in the late 1990s.

Jo was one of Australia’s members of the ICC Court of Arbitration from 2018 to 2024. She is Chair of ACICA’s Professional Advisory Board, a member of ACICA’s Practice and Procedures Board, Co-Chair of The Pledge APAC Steering Committee and a member of ILA (Australia Branch) Management Committee.

Qualified in New South Wales (Australia) and England & Wales, Jo has worked in London and Sydney.

Jo is recognised in Best Lawyers Australia since 2019 in the areas of Alternative Dispute Resolution, International Arbitration and Natural Resources Law.
