Career

Jeremy P. Brummond serves as Practice Group Leader for the Construction Law practice group in the Litigation Department. Although his focus is on design and construction, Jeremy represents clients in a variety of commercial litigation matters. Clients include property owners, design professionals, general contractors, specialty contractors, equipment suppliers, and material suppliers. Jeremy counsels these clients in contract negotiation and drafting, and he frequently represents these clients in litigation including cases involving claimed construction and design defects, delay and lost productivity, and mechanic's lien and payment bond claims.

Jeremy is on the Governing Committee of the American Bar Association's Forum on the Construction Industry, he is a member of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis's Construction Law Committee, and he is a panel arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association (AAA). Jeremy was selected for inclusion in Missouri & Kansas Rising Stars® 2010-2014 and in Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyers® for 2015-2024. Additionally, he was among the "Top 50" St. Louis area Super Lawyers® in 2018, 2021, and 2024, and was among the “Top 100” Missouri and Kansas Super Lawyers in 2024. Jeremy was recognized by Best Lawyers® in 2019-2025, and he is ranked in Band 1 by Chambers USA for Construction Law.

- Represented equipment supplier at arbitration regarding claims that defects in equipment delayed commissioning of a power plant in Wisconsin.

- Represented owner of food manufacturing facility in dispute relating to claims that design-build contractor failed to satisfy standard of care in its development of designs for new facility.

- Represented Texas-based contractor in its efforts to recover more than $15 Million for work performed at a new PET chemical plant in Southern Texas (including efforts to recover for significant extra work caused by delays and lost efficiencies).

- Represented apartment developer in connection with claims pertaining to alleged non-disclosure of construction defects in connection with the sale of development.

- Represented design-build contractor pertaining to claims by owner of manufacturing facility that flooring installed in facility was defective.

- Represented general contractor in connection with claims for increased costs pertaining to project delay on public project and defended contractor against claims by owner for liquidated damages.

- Represented national pipe installation contractor in connection with claims for extra work and increased costs because of project delay pertaining to work performed at a natural gas production facility in Northern Illinois.

- Represented national equipment installation contractor at mediation and in arbitration process in connection with claims for lost productivity and delay damages in connection with cement manufacturing facility in New York.

- Represented national general contractor in connection with construction of transshipment facility in Pennsylvania and claims for significant increased costs due to late release of drawings, unclear drawings, and unforeseen weather impacts.

- Represented refinery and its turnaround contractor in connection with personal injury claims by turnaround contractor employee in Cook County, Illinois.

- Represented civil and structural steel contractor in connection with claims for extra costs pertaining to lost productivity and delay caused by owner mismanagement and poor and incomplete project design, other contractor interference, and other causes.

- Represented hand-railing installation contractor in dispute with railing manufacturer (supplier) in connection with claims for extra costs claimed by manufacturer for park in Chicago, Illinois

- Represented owner of $10 Million new residence in arbitration process in connection with claims against contractor pertaining to overbilling and contract termination.

- Represented tunnel installation contractor in connection with bond and delay claims pertaining to inadequate site preparation for installation crane and owner design changes.

- Represented tunnel installation contractor in connection with claims for delay and extra costs pertaining to unforeseen site conditions and inadequate design to restrain rock in tunnel.

- Represented national road contractor in connection with claims of defective construction against subcontractor/material supplier.

- Represented national steel supplier in connection with claims that owner caused delay, and that negligent engineering affected supplier.

- Represented national pipe supplier in claim for payment of approximately $18 million owed. Owner refused payment because of alleged defective work.

- Defended regional land surveyor in claim that surveyor negligently performed staking services for local project.

- Represented local construction manager in payment claims by subcontractors (for which construction manager was refusing payment, based on delays caused by subcontractors' defective performance).

- Defended regional hospital contractor against claims by design professionals that contractor defectively constructed HVAC system, resulting in inadequate air flow/exchanges at the hospital.

- Represented condominium developer in claims against contractor and subcontractors, regarding various construction defects resulting in water intrusion and exterior rot to the condominium development at issue.

- Defended civil engineer against claims by developer that the former erred in performing design, resulting in delayed and more costly development.

- Represented regional hospital contractor in claims against subcontractor based on the subcontractor's defective installation of fireproofing material, which defective installation delayed the project and resulted in cost to repair facility.

- Represented subdivision in litigation against contractor and design professionals, relating to the defective design and construction of a sewer treatment facility for a residential subdivision in rural Missouri.
