James Stewart

James Stewart, known to most as Jimmy, is a founding partner at Corvalier. He works closely with ultra-high-net-worth family groups across Latin America, helping them structure and manage wealth with insight, care, and long-term perspective.

Before founding Corvalier, Jimmy held senior roles at EFG Bank & Trust (Bahamas) and the Royal Bank of Canada, advising international families across the region. Originally trained as a chemical engineer, he spent 15 years in industry before moving into wealth management. His engineering background shaped his ability to analyse complexity, see connections others might overlook and offer a nuanced perspective to challenging advisory situations. His approach is rooted in intellectual curiosity and careful listening - understanding what clients are trying to achieve before advising on the decisions that will help them get there.

Jimmy is recognised for his work with entrepreneurial families whose wealth has been built through privately owned businesses and whose assets and interests span multiple jurisdictions. He collaborates with their network of advisers to address the ownership, succession and governance questions that arise as families and their circumstances become more complex, ensuring that structures reflect the realities of their businesses, family circumstances and long-term goals.

He holds a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering from Universidad de la República in Uruguay, a Master of Science from the University of Reading, and is an alumnus of the Owner/President Management Program (OPM 54) at Harvard Business School. He is a member of STEP, has served on the board of the Family Firm Institute, and has held directorships of several privately owned companies across Latin America.

Based in Miami, Jimmy advises families throughout Latin America. Fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese, he brings commercial understanding, cross-border experience and a deeply relationship-led approach to his work at Corvalier.
