James Hoar

James Hoar is a founding partner at Corvalier. For over 30 years, he has advised ultra-high-net-worth families on how to navigate complexity and make confident decisions across borders. His focus is on multi-jurisdictional families, many with US connections, who require thoughtful, well-structured planning and investment support.

James brings deep experience from senior roles at EFG Bank & Trust and SG Hambros Bank & Trust in The Bahamas, where he advised global families, particularly in Latin America, on wealth structures involving personal-use assets, operating businesses, and financial holdings. His career has spanned private banking, fiduciary services, investment management, and fund administration, giving him a broad and nuanced understanding of the landscape that surrounds complex family wealth.

James holds an MBA from Cranfield School of Management and is a full member of STEP (Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners). He is also a Fellow of the Family Firm Institute with an Advanced Certificate in Family Wealth Advising.

James brings a truly international outlook grounded in practical experience. Now based in London, he has lived and worked in The Bahamas, the UK, Uruguay, Southeast Asia, and Canada. As a business owner himself, with family members and business interests across multiple jurisdictions, James brings firsthand insight and understanding to the realities facing internationally connected families.
