James is a Partner and Head of the Funds Team and a member of the FinTech team. He deals with funds and financial services law, as well as tax.
James is a highly regarded practitioner who has been instrumental in setting up the majority of Gibraltar’s funds, including the first experienced investor fund and the first protected cell company fund. He is Deputy Chairman of the Gibraltar Funds and Investments Association (www.gfia.gi) and President of the Gibraltar-American Chamber of Commerce (www.amcham.gi).
James advises the Government of Gibraltar on its funds legislation including the Financial Services (Experienced Investor Funds) Regulations 2005, the Limited Partnerships Act 2021, the AIFM Regulations and the Protected Cell Limited Partnerships Act 2021.
He is a member of the Gibraltar Finance Centre Council and a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitoners.
James advised on a substantial trust in a case involving litigation in Paris, New York and Buenos Aires that was featured in the ‘New Yorker’ magazine, the ‘New York Law Journal’ and on CBS News. James is a regularly featured speaker at international conferences.
James is a member of the Israel Bar Association, the Law Society of England & Wales and the Gibraltar Bar. In his spare time, he serves as Chairman of the Gibraltar Philharmonic Society.

Career
James read literature, music and law at Johns Hopkins and Bar-Ilan Universities. He is also a graduate of the Oxford University programmes on FinTech and Blockchain. Joined Hassans 1999 became Partner in 2005.
