James' practice is primarily in public law, with a focus on planning and environment law, including licensing law and local government law. He also deals with property and commercial matters.
James appears at inquiries and in courts and tribunals at all levels north and south of the border. He has appeared in a number of important Supreme Court cases (e.g. Welwyn Hatfield, Tesco v Dundee, Trump v Scottish Ministers) as well as before Parliamentary Committees.
