Jaime Vargas advises national and multinational companies from different sectors such as energy, oil & gas, telecommunications, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, and consumer.
He is an expert in advising clients on complex tax matters related to national and international tax planning, M&A, investment and divestment structures, tax controversy, and tax litigation.
Before joining Cuatrecasas, he led the tax practice of two Big Four audit firms in Colombia and the Colombian tax practice of a major global law firm. He also worked as corporate and international tax manager for Mexico's leading multinational bottling group.
He lectures on tax planning and corporate taxation in master’s and doctorate studies at Universidad Externado de Colombia. He chairs the Academic Commission of the Colombian Institute of Tax Law.
He is co-author of the book "Double Taxation Agreements in Colombia: theory and practice,” Editorial Legis, 2019.
